How To Setup Remote Desktop Connection in Windows 8 ?

1- To setup or Enable Remote Desktop Connection in Windows 8 , open the Control Panel. (Read This Post.) Then Type “Remote” in the search box and click “Select users who can use remote desktop”.

In the System Properties dialog box, under Remote Desktop, select one of the three options, for example, the first option, “Don’t allow connections to this computer”. Tap or click Select Users, and in the Remote Desktop Users dialog box, tap or click Add.

2- In the Select Users or Groups dialog box, do the following:
a- To specify the search location, tap or click Locations, and then select the location you want to search.
b- In Enter the object names to select, enter the name of the user that you want to add, and then tap or click OK. The name will be added to the list of users who can connect to this PC.


Enable Remote Desktop on the Windows 8 CTP

1- Move the mouse to the bottom-left of the screen (diagonally left) – a “start menu” will popup
2- Click on “Search”
3- Type “CMD” (no uppercase is necessary; this is for effect)…
4- Click on “cmd” on the left
5- Type “SystemPropertiesRemote.exe” (again; no uppercase is necessary)
6- Click on the lowest button (see below)

7- Click Ok.

To obtain the IP address type “ipconfig” – and find the line with “IPv4 address against it” – eg

Then on the connecting Windows 7 machine – use “start”, – and type “mstsc” into the search (or use Start – Accessories – “Remote Desktop Connection”)

Type in the IP address as above.

    I do not have the Remote Desktop section in that menu. I only have the top section for Remote Assistance. Similar to what you see in Windows 7 Home. However I am running 8.1?
